BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY (BS MLT)

This four years (eight semesters) degree program, after Intermediate (Pre-Medical) or equivalent, is designed to prepare competent medical laboratory professionals who can perform, analyze, and report diagnostic laboratory tests with accuracy, integrity, and care. Graduates support clinicians in disease diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and public health screening across hospitals, diagnostic centers, and research laboratories.

The curriculum integrates biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, histopathology, molecular diagnostics, biosafety, and laboratory quality management with extensive practical and clinical rotation experience. Students learn to operate modern laboratory instrumentation, apply quality control standards, and work effectively as responsible members of the healthcare team, in particular as Medical Laboratory Technologists and Clinical Diagnostic Specialists.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate is required.
  • Pre-Medical (FSc Pre-Medical) is required for HND and MLT programs.
  • Candidates with A-Level or other recognized qualifications must provide an equivalence certificate.
  • Fulfillment of HEC and BIMS admission criteria for the selected degree program.
  • Submission of required documents and fees within the announced admission timeline.
Admission and Registration:-

  • A candidate holding Intermediate Certificate (FSc Pre-Medical) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institute with at least 50% marks shall be eligible for admission.
  • Candidates with A-Level or other recognized qualifications must provide an equivalence certificate from IBCC.
  • Admission will be on open merit basis according to BIMS / affiliating university policy.
  • Age: A candidate must not be more than 23 years of age on 1st October of the year of admission; however, the Vice Chancellor may relax the age limit in exceptional cases.

Academic Standing

Promotion, probation, warning status, and graduation requirements as defined for this program.

Academic Standing:-

  • Grade Point Average: Maximum CGPA 4.00; minimum CGPA required for obtaining the degree is 2.50.
  • A student who maintains the minimum CGPA for promotion and meets semester requirements will be promoted to the next semester.
  • A student who does not meet promotion requirements for the first time must repeat the same semester. If the same situation occurs a second time, the student shall cease to be on the university roll.
  • During the minimum duration of the degree, a student may repeat courses in which grade “F” was earned, provided the semester credit-hour limit is not exceeded. Repetition of lowest grades may be allowed after the last semester if CGPA is below degree requirement.
